At the Golden Globe Awards, Torres won the Best Actress in a Motion Picture while the film was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. At the 97th Academy Awards, the film was nominated for Best Actress (Torres) and Best Picture and won Best International Feature Film, becoming the first-ever Brazilian-produced film to win an Academy Award. 

Eunice Paiva (Fernanda Torres) begins a lonely battle to learn the truth behind the disappearance of her husband, former PTB deputy Rubens Paiva, while trying to keep her family together.
