Director Wim Wenders’ 1986 classic is a much-loved hymn to a divided Berlin. Inspired by art depicting angels visible around West Berlin, at the time encircled by the Berlin Wall.

Damiel and Cassiel are a pair of trenchcoated angels who watch over the city, silently comforting its citizens in their hour of need.

But captivated by a beautiful French trapeze artist, Damiel (Bruno Ganz) decides to trade his gentle, angelic life for the torturous emotions of human life.
